Production-Ready Software: Introduction

For over a decade, I’ve worked on systems where production failures aren’t theoretical—where you debug crashes at 2am, optimize under real load, and understand exactly how things break at scale. I spent seven years on the core team at Hibernating Rhinos working on RavenDB’s core systems—the Voron B-Tree storage engine, server components, and direct customer production support. Memory Dumps: Your software’s black box, offering invaluable insights into what goes on under the hood, especially when things don’t go as planned.
Comprehensive Testing: These safety nets catch bugs and issues before they escalate into production nightmares, covering everything from unit to integration testing.
Beyond the Basics: Consider elements such as disaster recovery, security, scalability, and documentation. They may not always be in the spotlight, but they’re crucial for long-term success.
